Image Metrics and Nissan have partnered again with a global app in time for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. With the huge fan base of the college sport Die Hard Fan app, Image Metrics and Nissan wanted to develop an app where worldwide sports fans can show and share their national pride and support for those taking part in these Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro by virtually painting their face with one of almost 2,000 different designs. Enter the Nissan’s Olympic ‘Diehard Fan Nations’ app.
This augmented reality app allows fans to choose from up to 20 different designs for each of the 206 non-Brazilian nations due to participate, instantly “paint” their chosen design over a favorite picture or video of their face, then share the result—all using a smartphone or tablet.

Virtual Reality Partnership Will Change The Way You Define “Virtual”
Image Metrics and Sine Wave Entertainment are pleased to annouce a partnership with plans to create the most immersive social experiences in the virtual reality industry. Using Oculus’ virtual-reality equipment and Image Metrics’ proprietary technology, the companies will integrate true-to-life facial animation into Sine Wave Entertainment’s virtual reality worlds.
Sine Wave Entertainment CEO Adam Frisby remarks, “the way I envision users using this technology ultimately is going to be where we can make it a de facto system for highly immersive social environments. This gets us another notch closer to ‘being as good as there’ when talking to someone online – it has potential for both social & commercial uses.”
The initial release to the virtual reality worlds is set for late August to over 2 million existing users. The companies anticipate that the user base will grow exponentially as they launch beyond desktop platforms and onto mobile platforms.
